Poly Tarps—Hay Tarps

Updated: Apr 19, 2023

Tarps have a wide range of applications. A tarp is usually a rectangular-shaped cloth made of polyethylene, polyester, vinyl, canvas, mesh, and other materials. They are commonly used for multiple purposes outdoors, including makeshift tents, vehicle covers, shade cloth, etc.

Tarps come in multiple forms and sizes, making them very adaptable to your needs. Anybody can use a tarp; it is not just useful in the field of construction. It's incredibly convenient to have at least one tarp at home because it can come in handy for so many different situations. There are many different varieties of tarps on the market. The most common type of tarp in use today is a plastic tarp, also known as poly tarps. They come in a wide range of weight, thickness, and durability options, from a lightweight and inexpensive tarp to a heavy duty tarp that makes a good investment.

Polyethylene Tarps

Plastic tarps are only one of the several broad categories of tarps currently produced. Unlike some other materials, poly isn't just water resistant—it's waterproof. They can protect whatever they shelter from sun and wind as well. To some degree, they could even protect your belongings from falling objects. They also make moving and hauling much easier for you.

The stronger and more durable the poly tarp, the more activities you can reuse it for because of increased longevity. You can use plastic tarps to cover the floor, roof, walls, and other surfaces on buildings sites. They can also be used as separators and curtains to keep one side apart from the other. They can also protect the floor from stains when painting walls, doors, and other surfaces.

· The material of poly tarps are occasionally used in everyday objects, which may surprise you. You can see it repurposed for use in purses, umbrellas, face masks, and outdoor clothing, among other things. Someone can easily make a custom design out of plastic tarp material and utilize it for its many great features. The resilience of plastic tarps adds to their usefulness.

Hay Tarps

One particular subtype of polyethylene tarp is a hay tarp, also known as a hay cover. Because it is incredibly opaque, meaning that it lets very little light through, these tarps are very useful for farmers storing feed in their field. They have a pale or reflective upward-facing side (usually white or silver) to deflect heat and light from the sun and a dark downward-facing side (usually black) to block whatever light and heat is not directly reflected by the other side.

A hay cover should always be a heavy duty tarp, meaning that it is durable (able to withstand a great deal) and long-lasting (don't break down quickly). Ideally it will have UVI—ultraviolet inhibitor—included in the polyethylene resin during manufacturing. This helps it resist the way UV light from the sun breaks down plastic materials over time. This not only makes hay tarps even more valuable as an investment for agriculture, it also makes them an incredible options for all sorts of other applications. If you're in the market for a strong, long-lasting tarp, a hay cover is a very practical choice.
